Human skeletal muscle is composed of a different collection of muscle fiber types. This range of muscle fiber types allows for the wide variety of abilities that human muscles display. In addition, muscle fibers can alter the size or fiber type based on the demands of exercise. There are white and red muscle fibers in which the white muscle fibers have less myoglobin content whereas red muscle fibers have abundant myoglobin with them. The ATP content of the red muscle fiber do not get exhaust quickly due to the abundant of mitochondria whereas reverse is the situation with the white muscle fibers. High intensity and longer duration activity requires red muscle fibers.
