Activity 1: Series Circuits Procedure: Open the simulator at the following link: PHET DC Circuits (https://phet colorado.edu/sims/html/circuit-construction-kit-dc/latest/circuit-construction-kit-dc_en.html) 1. Set up the circuit as shown below in Figure 1. Use the default values of the components in the simulator. Try to configure the circuit as closely as possible to the figure below. You will need approximately 8 or 9 wires. To simulate an actual circuit, adjust the wire sensitivity so there is just a tiny amount of wire resistance. Figure 1: Series Circuit 2. Measure the voltage drop across the light bulb. The red lead of your meter should be placed on the post closest to the positive battery terminal. Place the black lead on the other side of the bulb. Record the voltage of the bulb in Data Table 2A. 3. Remove the wire next to the positive terminal of the battery. You will now measure the current coming out of the battery. Do this by inserting ammeter tool into vacated post next to the battery. This should complete the circuit and light the bulb. Record the current flowing out of the battery and into the bulb in Data Table 2A.
