Expert Solution
Step 1
The goal of any test used for the detection of a disease is to identify the people in a population who are infected such that no infected case is missed and no uninfected case is falsely identified. As such there are two parameters which are of importance in deciding the diagnostic value of a test - the test sensitivity and the test specificity.
Test sensitivity is the ability of a test to correctly identify those with the infection (true positive).
Test specificity is the ability of the test to identify those without the disease (true negative).
