Question

A certain decomposition reaction is first order with a rate constant of 6.85*10-4 s-1  at 25 degrees Celsius.
If the original concentration of reactant A is 0.365 M how long (in seconds) will it take for 1/3 of reactant A to have reacted?

Expert Solution
Step 1) first order reaction

*  First order reaction =>

             Rate = [A]¹

              OR

         Kt = ln {A0/A}

 Where,

  K = rate constant

  { A0 }  is intial concentration

  { A }  is final concentration

    t    is take by reaction

* intial concentration {A0} = 0.365 M

And only 1/3 of reactant is reacted

So, final concentration of reactant = A- A0/3

 final concentration  = (3A- A) / 3

 final concentration = 2A0/3
