A bolted connection shown is connected by 20 mm diameter bolts with
an edge distance of 50 mm and the distance center to center of holes to be 75 mm.
Assume that the deformation at bolt hole is a design consideration. The bolted
connection is carrying an ultimate load Pu = 1500 kN, Fy = 248 MPa, Fu = 400 MPa and
Fn = 415 MPa. Determine the following: (1) Design bearing strength of one bolt. (2)
Design shear strength of one bolt. (3) The number of bolts are required for the
connection show.
