The dermis is one of the layers of skin besides the epidermis and the hypodermis.
Dermis: The dermis is the skin layer beneath the epidermis. Hair follicles, sweat and oil glands, and blood arteries are all housed in this layer of the skin, which also contains connective tissues. Nerve endings in the dermis are responsible for transmitting messages to the brain when you burn your hand on a hot stove or have an itch in the back of your neck. The dermis contains blood vessels that feed your skin with fresh blood that carries the oxygen and nutrients it requires to stay healthy. Collagen and elastin, which are responsible for the form, structure, firmness, and elasticity of your skin, are produced by the dermis within its connective tissues.
