Expert Solution
Step 1

Pulmonary Fibrosis is a condition in which the lung tissues get damaged and scarred. Thickening and stiffness of the tissues makes it difficult for the lungs to function normally. The patient may experience shortness of breath that increases progressively with the condition. The damage to the lung tissues as the result of fibrosis is not repairable. Medical intervention aim to ease the symptoms and improve the quality of life.

Spirometry test measures three lung volumes which are are inspiratory reserve volume, tidal volume and expiratory reserve volume. These lung volumes are also called inspiratory capacity, vital capacity and functional residual capacity. This test cannot measure the residual volume. Pulmonary function test measure the lung function and capacity. This test measure how much air the lungs can hold and how much air is moved in and out of the lungs.
