Expert Solution
Step 1

In response to a stimulus, an action or a sequence which is unplanned and involuntary and nearly instantaneous movement is called as a reflex. With the help of neural pathways called as reflex arcs, a reflex is made possible which act on an impulse before it reaches the brain.

Elements present in the reflex are-
1. Receptor- it forms the site of stimulus action.
2. Sensory(afferent) neuron- these neurons transmit afferent stimulus to the central nervous system.
3. Integration center- it's formed of one or more neurons in the central nervous system.
4. Motor(efferent) neuron- the efferent impulses from the integration center are conducted to the effector organ by them.
5. Effector- in response to the efferent impulses, the muscle fibers or glands respond by contraction or secretion respectively.
