4. A cylindrical boiler radius 3 m length, 10 m contains steam at a pressure of 1500 N/ m?. Find total thrust on the internal top and bottom surface of the boiler cylinder.
Fluid Pressure
The term fluid pressure is coined as, the measurement of the force per unit area of a given surface of a closed container. It is a branch of physics that helps to study the properties of fluid under various conditions of force.
Gauge Pressure
Pressure is the physical force acting per unit area on a body; the applied force is perpendicular to the surface of the object per unit area. The air around us at sea level exerts a pressure (atmospheric pressure) of about 14.7 psi but this doesn’t seem to bother anyone as the bodily fluids are constantly pushing outwards with the same force but if one swims down into the ocean a few feet below the surface one can notice the difference, there is increased pressure on the eardrum, this is due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure.

5. Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) are tracking transmitters which aid
in the detection and location of ships in distress. It uses hydrostatic pressure and once
immersed in the required pressure it is automatically activated. A certain EPIRB was
activated in a depth of 4.0m, assuming the sea water has an R.D. of 1.025, what is the
ABSOLUTE hydrostatic pressure required to activate the device?](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2F2afedc5d-9f60-400d-81a0-2cecd7d4cc7a%2F1b96dfb9-17e0-45be-8276-7bb9b5ffd1ce%2Fbqxmzot_processed.png&w=3840&q=75)
