3. (a) In this part of questions we have to compare the solubility of given two given compounds in hexane solvent.

•The Substance A and substance B both have ester group. But the difference between the both substance is the number of carbon chain.

• In case of substance A,  there is ethyl group is attached with ester group and in substance B the butyl group is attached with the ester group.

• And the polarity of any compounds decreases with increasing the no. of carbon chain.

• Therefore the substance A is more polar as compared to Substance B. Because for A substance  there is ethyl group(two carbon)attached and in B substance there is butyl group (four carbon chain).  

• And as we know that in non polar solvent dissolves the less polar compound more easily as compared to the more polar solvent.

• Therefore the more polar substance A is more soluble in hexane as compared to Substance B.
