2) During a strong hurricane, horizontal winds can reach Vout= 74 m/s (165 mph). Assume Vin = 0 m/s. A building has 2 vertical double doors, each with area = 2 m², for a total area of A = 4 m². The doors face south and the wind direction is west, so the winds are not face on. Pair = 1.29 kg/m³. a) What is the pressure difference, Pin - Pout on the doors. Assume yin = Yout- Pin - Pout = b) What is the force acting on the doors, and what is the direction of this force? F= F= c) What is this force in pounds? 1 N = .225 lb. Vout= N. t N/m² After the storm, it is found that a small object has been driven into the water tower. The water level inside the water tower is 12 meters above the ground. The height of the hole is 9 meters above the ground. The object is removed, and water sprays out. m/s lbs. d) Considering the hole and the water in the tower, what is the speed of the water coming out of the hole? Assume Vin = 0 and Pin = Pout = Patm sec. m. Direction IN or OUT Circle one e) If the hole is 9 meters above the ground, how long does it take the water to hit the ground? f) With the speed the water has, and the time to hit the ground, how far does it travel horizontally?
Fluid Pressure
The term fluid pressure is coined as, the measurement of the force per unit area of a given surface of a closed container. It is a branch of physics that helps to study the properties of fluid under various conditions of force.
Gauge Pressure
Pressure is the physical force acting per unit area on a body; the applied force is perpendicular to the surface of the object per unit area. The air around us at sea level exerts a pressure (atmospheric pressure) of about 14.7 psi but this doesn’t seem to bother anyone as the bodily fluids are constantly pushing outwards with the same force but if one swims down into the ocean a few feet below the surface one can notice the difference, there is increased pressure on the eardrum, this is due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure.
