1(a) Discuss four core factors you believed resulted to the closure of CBO’s and NGO’s
a) The government has cancelled Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licences:
The government has cancelled the the licenses about 20,000 non-profit government organisations (NGOs). Cancellation of license would mean that these NGOs are no longer eligible to receive foreign funds. It should be noted that several of these NGOs are involved in rights-based advocacy work, especially working in the domain of human rights.
b) Lack of Long-Term Strategic Planning:
NGOs appear to be incapable of predicting what they will do even in one or two months. Most of their activities look like one time shots. However, a single event is not enough to change the attitude towards some problem. In part, it happens because the activists are trying to diversify their activities, organize events of different kinds and in different areas so that they do not let themselves drown in monotony.
c ) Poor Cooperation with Mass Media:
Most of our NGOs rely on journalists when organizing an event: they expect they would come and cover everything. When nobody shows up for their event, firstly, they accuse journalists of conspiracy and declare a crisis in mass media and, secondly, they do nothing to spread the word about the event themselves.
