Introduction:

The nervous system is the primary controlling and coordinating system of the individual. It regulates and controls all the body's activities, including voluntary and involuntary, and adjusts the individual to the given surrounding. The nervous tissue comprises two types of cells- glial cells and neurons.

Neurons, also referred to as nerve cells, are the basic fundamental units of the individual's nervous system. For instance, these cells perform various functions, receive sensory inputs from the outside environment, transmitting motor commands to the body's muscles, and transform and relay the electrical signals in-between every step. The neuron comprises dendrites, soma, and axons. The axon consists of small swelling at their end, which is referred to as axon terminal. This terminal is situated extremely near the dendrite of the next neuron. This proximity of each nerve cell is referred to as synapse, and the small gap between the synapses is referred to as synaptic cleft.
