In propositional logic the symbol ∨ stands for Disjunction(OR)

          P∨Q  is true if either P is true or Q is true (or both). It's only false if both P and Q are false.

 

In propositional logic the symbol ~ stands for Negative(NOT)

         ~P is true when P is false and vice-versa.
