The infections include conjunctivitis, meningitis, cholera, typhoid, etc. In treating conjunctivitis, chloramphenicol is used in the form of eye ointment while for treating other infections, it is used orally or through veins. Chloramphenicol has severe side effects also including bone marrow suppressions.
