Red blood cells (RBCs) or erythrocytes are one of the main components of blood. They have a protein called hemoglobin to which oxygen binds to and thus helps blood provide oxygen to various parts of the body. It is also involved in various other functions.
Individuals have different blood groups due to the presence of different surface antigens present on them. The ones who don't have a particular antigen have antibodies against those antigens. There are 4 types of blood group, type A have A antigen and has antibodies against B antigens. Type B has B antigens and antibodies against A. Type AB has both A and B antigens and no antibodies against the other antigens. Finally, type O which has no antigens and hence has antibodies against antigen A and B.
