Directions: Read each boxed paragraph about respiration (gas exchange),
circulation/transport of materials, and excretion (regulation of fluids) of the human
body. Then, answer the questions that follow.

The constant Internal environment(homeostasis) of the human body
must be maintained for it to survive. The combined works of the
respiratory system, circulatory system, and the excretory/urinary system
are important in maintaining this homeostasis.
The respiratory system controls the balance between the inhalation of
oxygen and the excretion of carbon dioxide that leaves the body. The
level of carbon dioxide in the body must be maintained for the body
cell s to function well.
The circulatory system brings oxygen from the respiratory system and
the nutrients from the digestive system to the different cells of the body.
The circulatory system also take the waste products from the cells and
them bring them to the urinary system and the respiratory systems
where they are removed from the body. Waste materials like excess
water and salt go out of the body through the urinary system, while
carbon dioxide exits the body through the respiratory system.
Lastly, the urinary system removes waste products from the blood
through the kidneys. These waste materials which contain excess salt,
excess water, urea, creatinine, and ammonia leave the body through
the urinary system in the form of the liquid waste called urine.
