1. Use the terms volume and pressure to describe how Boyle's Law explains the relationship between pressure and volume. 2. During inspiration, what happens to the volume of the chest cavity? Use a complete sentence to describe this! 3. How does this change in the volume of the chest cavity affect the pressure within the thoracic cavity? Use a complete sentence to describe this change! 4. Based on the changess in volume and pressure you described in parts 2 and 3, in which direction will air flow during inspiration? Use a complete sentence to describe the direction of air flow during inspiration.

1. The relationship between volume and pressure in Boyle's law is described as a gas at a constant temperature. The pressure of the gas is inversely related to its volume. When the volume decreases, the pressure
increases. Just as if the pressure increases, the volume will decrease.
2. When the body is in the process of inspiration the diaphragm contracts, and the volume of the chest cavity increases.
3. When the volume of the thoracic cavity increases it causes the pressure to decrease.
4. In inspiration the direction of airflow goes in the direction to go into the lungs.
