Endocrine Quiz Questions
1. Compare and contrast the different types of intercellular
communication.
2. What is the difference between endocrine and exocrine
glands? What are hormones? What are the different classes
of hormones, examples of each and their basic functions?
3. What are second messengers? Explain the differences
between how lipid soluble and water soluble hormones act
on target cells.
4. Define simple and complex endocrine reflexes. Describe the
3 hypothalamic mechanisms of complex endocrine reflexes.
5. List the hormones of the anterior and posterior pituitary
gland and their actions. What is the importance of the
hypophyseal portal system?
6. List the hormones of the thyroid and parathyroid gland and
their actions, as well as which cells produce which
hormones.
7. List the hormones of the adrenal cortex and medulla as well
as their actions, as well as which zones produce which
hormones.
8. List the hormones of the pineal gland, pancreas, kidneys,
heart, thymus, adipose and gonads as well as their actions.
What cells in the pancreas and gonads produce which
hormones?

Expert Solution
Step 1: Introduction

Communication between one cell and another cell is called intercellular communication. Cellular communication occurs in four stages. They are,

  • Signaling
  • Reception
  • Transduction
  • Response

Cell will send an electrical or chemical signal to another cell. Signal will be received through electrical conduction or ligand (signal molecule)-receptor interaction in case of chemical signal. Upon binding of ligand molecule with the receptor of the recipient cell, the recipient cell will undergo cellular changes to respond to the signal.
