Question

9. An instructor is curious about how students’ scores on the first quiz correlated with their scores on the second quiz.

The quiz scores are as follows:

  • Quiz 1      Quiz 2
  • 10.           10
  • 6.              8
  • 7.              7
  • 9.              11

Construct a scatterplot of the data, and find the correlation coefficient (r) between the two quizzes.

A student scored a 9 on the first quiz, but had an excused absence for the second quiz. The instructor decided to use a predicted score for the missing second quiz. If the instructor used a regression analysis to determine the predicted score, what score should the instructor use? First, find the regression equation for the predicted value for Quiz 2. Then, use it to find the predicted value on Quiz 2 for the student scoring a 9 on the first quiz. Draw, and label, the regression line on your scatterplot. Be sure to use different symbols for line points than the symbols used for data points.

(Show all of your work.) b) In a Russian test with a population standard deviation (σ) of 3, and a population mean (µ) of 50. What is the Z-Score for a raw score of 56? (Show all of your work.) c) Which test had the best score in relation to its population distribution? Briefly explain your answer.
