William Golding: Biography
Sir William Golding (1911-1993) was a Cornish novelist, playwright, and poet. He was awarded the Booker Prize in 1980 for his novel Rites of Passage and is most famous for his debut novel, Lord of the Flies. In 1983, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Golding was knighted in 1988 for his contributions to literature. He also wrote several essays: The Hot Gates (1965) and A Moving Target (1982) are two of his most popular essay collections.
