Qualitative Research Article In the article “Modern Slavery and Material Justice: The Case for Remedy and Reparation,” researchers examine Australia’s compliance with international obligations to provide effective remedies for survivors of modern slavery. The chosen qualitative methodology is ideal for this research question because it enables for a deep exploration of survivors’ experiences and the challenges, they face in accessing remedies like compensation and support. Practices will encourage sensationalism while failing to address or remedy specific violations of human rights (Simmons, Burn, & Mcleod, 2022). Qualitative research allows for a nuanced understanding of the barriers survivors encounter, providing insights essential for advocating policy changes informed by their lived experiences. This approach contrasts with a quantitative method, which might lack the depth needed to address the complexities of accessing effective remedies. The qualitative methodology of this study aligns effectively with the research question, emphasizing the importance of advocating for meaningful reforms based on firsthand narratives of survivors. Quantitative Research Article In the article “Adjustment Procedures for Temporal and Cross-Sectional Undercoverage of Homicide Offender Data”, researchers aim to rectify gaps in homicide offender data by adjusting
for temporal and cross-sectional undercoverage issues. The research question revolves around accurately estimating the number of homicide offenders during specific post-Furman capital statue periods across different states. Employing a quantitative methodology allows researchers to utilize statistical adjustment methods and factors derived from victim data to address missing information and undercovercoverage gaps in the records. By leveraging numerical techniques and data sources like the Vital Statistics Program, researchers can calculate adjustment factors to enhance the accuracy of estimations regarding the number of homicide offenders. This quantitative approach offers a precise and structured method for compensating the missing data, contrasting with a qualitative method that may not provide the necessary statistics required to tackle undercoverage concerns in homicide offender data.
