DAT 640 Practical R Activity Three Selecting Visualizations Overview: Exploratory data analysis allows us to become familiar with the underlying data of interest. As we use these techniques, we learn about the characterizations, distributions, and quality of our data. And, as we continue to explore, an underlying narrative describing the story of this data begins to emerge. Instructions: Complete the lab activities below. Provide responses to the questions and screenshots when prompted. Please note: This assignment will be submitted and graded in Brightspace. Part 1. Complete the uCertify Lab 2.22.2 Creating a Histogram and Lab 2.22.3 Creating a Scatterplot. Take screenshots illustrating successful execution of the lab R commands.
Part 2. Data Summary: Summarize your data through basic or detailed numeric summaries and through a characterization done by looking at any or all of the following: Distribution Normal Distribution gives an idea of how dataset variables are depicted using graphs or probability tables. This data set does not follow a normal distribution and affects the statistics. Skewness Measures the degree of distortion from the symmetrical bell-curved distribution. This data set has high rate of skewness to the right, positive, meaning that the mean and median are greater than the mode. Kurtosis In a data set measures the shape of the tails, based on normal distribution, and can tell how many outliers are in the data set. Values in this data set are negative, meaning there is a smaller peak around the mean. Missing values in data sets This data set does not have any missing values. As part of your summary, describe how the statistics generated may be valuable in determining potential areas of investigation. Part 3. Visualizations: Choose two different visualizations using any of the methods learned in the uCertify labs or readings. You must provide screenshots of two visualizations of the data set you chose in Module Two.
Part 4. Justification of Visualizations: In 1 to 2 paragraphs, justify the rationale for selecting one or more of these visualizations to tell a story. What aspects of the visualization are uniquely suited to this method? The two visuals I chose are a histogram of sepal width and a scatterplot of petal length and width. These tell the story about the distribution of the sepal width. Then the scatter plot shows the correlation between the length and width in a positive correlation. These assist in comparing the measurements of each species and visually describe the flowers.
