Explain each of the five phases of assessment. o Behavioral assessments are conducted for, “Identifying and defining the specific target behavior,” (Cooper et al., 2020). Behavioral assessments include procedures like interviews, checklists, and tests that will help identify the behavior. Behavioral assessments discover the function that the behavior serves in the persons environment,” (Cooper et al., 2020). For example, if the behavior is escape, attention, or access to a tangible. “A well-constructed and thorough assessment identifies the key variables controlling the behavior and guides the practitioner to manipulate these variables to the benefit of the learner,” (Cooper et al., 2020) o The 5 phases of an assessment are screening, define the problem, pinpointing the target behavior, monitor the progress, and doping a follow up. Screening is used to gather indirect and direct data from the client, family, and previous reports. You will gather all information that is needed to help you identify the behavior. Which lead to phase two, define the problem behavior once data is analyzed. Phase 3 would be to pinpoint the target behavior, so create a hypothesis about the function of the behavior. Phase 4 is to monitor the progress that is being recorded from your intervention. Phase 5 is to follow up and make any adjustments that is needed to continue to support and help the behavior.
