Report
Robert Choi Professor Lloyd Ackert HIST285-131 2 June 2019 WR 7: Lieber and Weisberg Part II: The Report Throughout the world, American is known to be one of the most powerful nations. With the American financial system, the country’s continuously growing economic strength, Revolution of growing technology, immense military and largely known social diversity of different cultures and races, the country’s presence is widely known in the global community. America has become a global power and world leader to many countries; therefore, many Americans carry this slightly ethnocentric mindset towards voicing their country as being extremely well-developed and industrialized. As mentioned by Leiber and Weisberg, "We dominate every field of human endeavor from fashion to film to finance. We rule the world culturally, economically, diplomatically and militarily as no one has since the Roman Empire” (Lieber & Weisberg 276 – 278). Lieber and Weisberg are conveying the message that the United States is a powerful nation due to its’ deeply enrooted and abundant resources all around the country. One of the United States’ most revered resources available is the collegiate education system that is filled with quality of research from scholars and highly educated professors. Leiber and Weisberg touch upon the subject that the United States is a global leader in the information revolution. Highly notable research university’s such as Harvard, Yale, University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and many more represent the pinnacle of superior quality research and education. It is mentioned in the text that a near 75% of Nobel Prize Winners are in science, medicine, and economics from the United States (Lieber & Weisberg 276 – 278). Lieber and Weisberg believe that American primacy and the establishment of a strong identity to the world was established by the country’s ability to excel in all aspects, show of force and cumulative high levels of diversity and variety. In addition to factors such as the success of the economy, “ivy league” university education and research, and military power, areas such as diversity of many different cultures, and music and entertainment evolution are a part of a strong country image to the world. Lieber and Weisberg’s view set on the establishment of American primacy and its global identity related to lecture as all these factors are a part of globalization. As stated in lecture, globalization revolves around the idea that one country is able to influence many other countries internationally with cultural and economic differences. In lecture, the establishment of McDonalds in America has spread internationally to a hundred countries. America has taken steps to continue their vision of globalization by spreading businesses around the world to make a presence. According to Misa, “Richard Barnet and John Cavanagh, in their essay Homogenization of Global Culture: Literally the entire planet is being wired into music, movies, news, television programs, and other cultural products that originate primarily in the film and recording studios of the United States” (Misa 226). For globalization, the spread and influence of cultural products is what has given the United States global attention. As Misa has stated,
through this nation’s entrepreneurial mindsets towards revolutionizing several industries, the country’s presence and influence has greatly impacted the global community.
