Question Prompt: What is the purpose of the study? Outline : Topic Sentence: Print awareness is an important achievement in emergent literacy for preschoolers and there are many ways a researcher can measure this development. Supporting Details: 1. Make more comments about print to increase awareness Concluding Sentence: Research on print awareness helps parents, educators, and clinicians by providing evidence-based strategies to increase early literacy skills. Final Paragraph : Print awareness is an important achievement in emergent literacy for preschoolers and there are many ways a researcher can measure this development. In the “Learn More About 7.4” video posted by Kimberly Murza (2020), the researcher reads a book to the child on a computer and uses her finger to point to each word as she reads it. There is a monitor to the right of the computer that is tracking the movements of the child’s pupil to detect where she is looking on the page. The results show that the child was only looking at the pictures on the page, opposed to any words. The purpose of this study is to show the participants level of attention to print during book reading. Although the research was using her finger to point to the words as she was reading, the child maintained interest on the pictures. This shows researchers that she has low

ASLS 266 level of print interest. Pence Turnbull and Justice (2017) suggest making comments and asking questions about the print to increase engagement and print awareness. These strategies would be particularly beneficial for the study participant by improving her literacy abilities.
