Social Problems and Solutions 1. Describe a current social problem and the vulnerable population it impacts. Today's culture is concerned about racial inequality. Racism is defined as "power imbalances, economic resources, and opportunities" in social science. Racial disparities in American society manifest in a variety of ways, including disparities in wealth, education, employment, bankruptcy, housing, and criminal behavior. This issue affects male African- Americans disproportionately. Institutional racism is a part of everyday life for men, the poor, and African Americans. According to Jansson (2007), no other population has endured such hardship for such a prolonged period. This cultural issue affects young African American men the most. Because they lack sufficient life experiences, they are not living up to their full human potential (Hoefer, 2015). As a result, their human development has been hindered by a lack of resources. The gap between white people and people of color is widening in a variety of areas, including housing, education, and money. It will only get worse if nothing is done about it. 2. How/when has this problem been identified historically, and what were the actions taken to address this concern? This is known as "historical trauma" by people of color. It is an expression used to portray a gathering of people influenced by a similar event. Identity is influenced by race, nationality, tribe, and ethnicity. Each historical event is terrible on its own, but they are all part of a huge record of cultural change and disaster. The majority of African-Americans lived their lives in slavery. Until 1865, slavery was legal in the United States. The United States imported 6–7 million Africans alone in the 18th century. Slavery was referred to as "darkness" Reading and writing skills among slaves were restricted by group membership. Slavery can be executed for "mild correction" or "resistance." Rape of slaves was common. The United Nations stated,
"Many nations are taking significant steps to improve the human rights position of people of African descent." One of two activities has been recorded by UNESCO. Educational resources have been created by UNESCO to dispel common misconceptions about African history. For the purpose of promoting the study of African history, artists from all over the world are coming together. 3. How have the populations affected by the social problem changed over time? Due to racial injustice and the pain of their past, African Americans have developed inner strength. As with everyone else, affected individuals are capable of adapting to both previous and current circumstances (Jansson, 2007). However, these historical catastrophes have far-reaching effects for people of all ages. Therefore, social issues must be addressed by politicians of today. The situation appears to have remained unchanged. The problem still exists, but in a different setting. Despite the fact that these people are no longer regarded as slaves, they continue to face discrimination as a result of disparities in income, social standing, educational attainment, and even family structure. Male African-Americans who were brought up by poor parents had twice as many chances of remaining poor as female African-Americans. Young African-American boys are more likely to suffer from poverty in the future. 4. How might this social problem be incongruent with social work values/ethics? Social and emotional well-being at work is impacted by the disparity in race. Ethics in the workplace aren't always followed or enforced. Racial disparities will always exist. It's actually quite important that these troubles don't just affect white individuals (Jansson, 2007). It is possible for anyone to be racist because we all have misconceptions and biases about certain groups. We have no choice and are unaware of our implicit feelings. However, this does not

mean that the present systemic issue should be ignored. Both the perpetrators and the victims must cooperate. 5. Describe the next steps for how you will identify a policy. The process of selecting a policy to address the issue involves many steps. The first thing that needs to be done is to find policies by location and major issues with policies that need to be fixed. According to Hoefer (2015), racial disparity is not restricted to White Americans, as previously established. The United States of America is unable to enforce rules on its own because people of African descent reside in multiple nations. National and local action plans are needed because each site has multiple policy areas and severity levels. From infancy to adulthood, the particular challenges faced by this vulnerable population necessitate specific policy responses.
