DQ 4.1 # 4 Hi, Incorporating the client's input and preferences into the treatment plan is a crucial aspect of trauma therapy, as it promotes a sense of empowerment and collaboration (Drisko, 2017). Active cooperation with the client in deciding on a treatment plan starts with providing the client with treatment options. The goal is to determine how the most effective treatment options fit the client's values and interests. This requires the clinician to summarize the evidence-based results and report them to the client so they can fully understand the pros and cons of each treatment (Drisko, 2017). The counsellor needs to be prepared that a client may choose to elect a treatment based on lesser research but rather based on personal preferences around costs, effort and side effects. Briere and Scott (2015) remind us that when the counsellor can accomplish a respectful and positive attitude, embedded with the notion that the client is doing the best he or she can with the circumstances that confront them, the therapy process almost always benefits. In sum, counsellors can create a more collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship by actively involving clients in treatment planning. This approach recognizes the client as an active participant in their healing journey and enhances the effectiveness of trauma therapy (Drisko, 2017). Briere, J.N., & Scott, C.
