1 HDFS 445: OSPREY Assignment Osprey: A New Social Media Platform That Aims to Be More Equitable and Inclusive 1. What is OSPREY's primary goal? OSPREY aims at improving fairness and inclusiveness in social media. OSPREY aims to do this by addressing the following issues: • Algorithmic bias: OSPREY’s algorithm is developed in a way that is less transparent than that of conventional social media algorithms. • Content moderation: Content moderation on OSPREY is based on the local communities whereby, users have a say on what they want to view on their feeds. • Data ownership: With OSPREY people have more power when it comes to their information and privacy. 2. Why was OSPREY launched now (July 2023)? To answer the question of why it was launched, there is a significant increase in calls for an equal and fair social network. There is more awareness about issues like algorithmic biases, personal information leakages, and false news dissemination in conventional social media network (Ohlson, 2019) s. This prompted the creation of OSPREY. 3. Who is the target market for OSPREY? OSPREY’s target market is the growing set of individuals with concerns involving the challenges in existing social media platforms and the need for an equitable, inclusive alternative (Ohlson, 2019) . OSPREY is also chasing after people interested in new and advanced tech. 4. Choose an article from the OSPREY website/resources & write a summary of the article and include your opinion about the article at the end.

2 I chose the article "The Future of Social Media: OSPTREY: “How is OSPTREY Changing the Game.” The author of this article states that OSPTREY is currently creating an equitable and inclusive social media platform using new technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence. This article is very informative. It explains why using OSPREY has so many advantages. Thus, what I intend to dwell on is how OSPREY applies blockchain to enable users to regain control. I consider it necessary and wish other social media had adopted such a way. 5. Watch the video and list the 5 points that you believe to be most important. The following are the 5 points that I believe to be most important from the OSPREY video: 1. OSPREY is a fresh new media social site developed as an alternative for previously established not very fair enough online media social sites. 2. Osprey is an innovative company that utilizes the likes of blockchain and AI in the process of attaining its objectives. 3. OSPREY provides users with more control over their data and its usage. 4. Despite being in the developmental stages, OSPREY might become a game changer in the social media industry. 5. OSPREY is a community-based system as compared to traditional systems operated by one company or institution. My opinion on the OSPREY video: The OSPREY video was very comprehensible and it excellently clarified the advantages of OSPREY. Particularly, OSPREY using blockchain to offer users a direct way to manipulate their data needs much attention . This, in my opinion, is one of the key aspects that it would be great to introduce on other social networking sites as well.

3 In conclusion, I am happy to have OSPREY as it is a potential top player in the market. We shall wait to see where it leads after this.
