The design that will be used in this situation is called a withdraw session. This kind of de- sign is alternating between phases A - the baseline and B - the intervention. For the A portion of this design, the behavior will be observed without any kind of intervention in place. The teacher will simply observe and collet the data of the, in this case, out of seat behavior. During the B phase, this is where the intervention is now implemented while taking the new data. The verbal praise and the tokens will be given to the student when he is doing the desired in seat behavior. The dependent variable is the out of seat behavior without any kind of intervention being implemented. The collection method that will be used is teacher observation and will be col- lected during times that the behavior is most likely to occur, in this case, during math. When looking at collecting the data, it needs to be accurate and show what is happening in day to day. Ensuring the environment will not change the behavior that you are collecting data on. The data will be collected by the teacher during typical classroom activities for at least 5 consecutive days to ensure the baseline is stable. When collecting the baseline data, the teacher needs to ensure it is as accurate as it can be, meaning when the child is out of their seat during baseline data collec- tion, there is no intervention for the child. The teacher will simply ask the child to sit back down in their chair, giving simple redirection. The Intervention that the teacher had decided on, the to- kens and the verbal praise for seated behavior, will come into play after the baseline data has been collected in the allotted amount of time. When the baseline data is all collected, then the teacher may start implementing the inter- vention that she came up with, the tokens and the verbal praise for in sect behavior. The purpose of the intervention is to see how effective it is to the child. If the intervention that has been cho- sen works, the teacher will see an increase in the in seat behavior and less of the out of seat be- havior. For the data to be reliable and accurate, the teacher will be the one collecting the data and
will do it for the same allotted time that she took data on pre intervention. If the concern is mostly in the time frame of math, she will collect data during that time, the same as pre interven- tion. The fictional relation or the effectiveness of the intervention is based on the child and their response, when the child is displaying in seat behavior, verbally said “sitting in seat, good job” then give them a token. The desired behavior needs to be associated with the verbal praise and the token. In an ABAB model, we look at the behavior without intervention, provide the inter- vention and then take it away and see how the child responds to see the effectiveness of the inter- vention that was put in place.
