Tabitha Smith May 28, 2024 4-2 Annotated Bibliography Marullo, S., & Edwards, B. (2000, February 1). From Charity to Justice: The Potential of University-Community Collaboration for Social Change. Sage Journals. https://doi.org/10.1177/00027640021955540 The article posits that educators and community leaders ought to leverage the plentiful assets of helping others to bring about societal unification through social change. Additionally, it examines the ways in which service-learning initiatives contribute to the aforementioned process (Marullo and Edwards, 2000). This assertion holds particular validity in regard to advocacy organizations that support students who were subjected to sexual abuse on college campuses in the US. When this occurs, individuals in positions of authority and enforcement are the primary guardianship in establishing a campus environment that fosters a sense of safety and an extensive support network, where it is safe to confront your abuser. It is my belief that by engaging in these discussions more often, we can all become more supportive and empathetic towards those who require assistance and are going through similar circumstances (Marullo and Edwards, 2000). Lind, A. (1997, August). Gender, development and urban social change: Women's community action in global cities. World Development, 25(8), 1205-1223. https://doi.org/10.1016/S0305-750X(97)00033-8 This essay's primary objective is to examine the gender dynamics of urban community engagement around the globe. The argument of the article revolves around food provision and anti-violence organizations that advocate for women. Lind (1997) states that each of these organizations "examines the ways in which their operations impact community and national development frameworks within the framework of urban poverty and economic restructuring." The article's third objective, which endorsed a nationwide strategy to facilitate women's involvement in economic and political development frameworks, along with other relevant community development initiatives (Lind, 1997), was exceptionally appealing to me. I have consistently advocated for greater female participation in global politics and for males, not women, to support this objective. This year's reversal of Roe v. Wade illustrated how a dearth of male support in our society can result in profound and life-altering ramifications for women. I never in a million years imagined that another person, much less someone I had never met in person, could control my body.
