W09 Assignment: The Savior's Visit to America Part One (of Three) Spend 2 hours studying the teachings of Christ found in 3rd Nephi chapters 11–18 . Highlight important teachings you find during your two focused hour of study. Don’t worry if you do not finish all of the chapters. Study deeply rather than quickly. Reference to Passage found in 3 Nephi 11- 18 SAMPLE Quotation from, and commentary on, something the Savior taught in these chapters. 3 Nephi 15:22-23 “And they understood me not, for they supposed it had been the Gentiles; for they understood not that the Gentiles should be converted through their preaching. And they understood me not that I said they shall hear my voice; and they understood me not that the Gentiles should not at any time hear my voice—that I should not manifest myself unto them save it were by the Holy Ghost.” I like how Jesus recognizes that even some of his most faithful disciples will not understand everything he says in the moment he says it. It takes time, and sometimes takes other events unfolding before we can understand all his words. While I think I understand a lot more from the scriptures than I used to, I know I still have a long way to go, and many things to learn about our Savior and our Heavenly Father’s plan. I want to hear His voice! Reference to Passage found in 3 Nephi 11- 18 First Quotation from, and commentary on, something the Savior taught in these chapters. 3 Nephi 11: 35 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I bear record of it from the Father; and whoso believeth in me believeth, in the Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit him with fire and with the Holy Ghost" Belief in God is inextricably linked to belief in Jesus Christ. Christ tells us that people who believe in Him will experience the Holy Ghost and fire in addition to a supernatural witness from the Father. The lesson emphasizes the connection between faith in the Father and the Son, implying that sincere faith results in a deep spiritual validation and the cleansing power of the Holy Ghost in our lives. Reference to Passage found in 3 Nephi 11- 18 Second Quotation from, and commentary on, something the Savior taught in these chapters. 3 Nephi 14: 7-14 “Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”“For every on that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.” Jesus teaches a profound lesson about asking for help and direction from above. His advice advocates for a proactive and tenacious approach to pursuing spiritual enlightenment and a closer relationship with God. The verbs "ask," "seek," and "knock" are used frequently, highlighting the significance of a sincere and ongoing search for heavenly wisdom. The promise that those who knock on doors will be answered, those who seek will find them, and those who ask will receive represents a pledge from God to be receptive to earnest and tenacious attempts to establish a relationship with the divine. Jesus stresses the importance of seeking and praying, but He also highlights how kind and receptive God is to those who proactively pursue a relationship with Him.
Reference to Passage found in 3 Nephi 11- 18 Third Quotation from, and commentary on, something the Savior taught in these chapters. 3 Nephi 18: 15 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye be led away captive by him.” The Savior imparts the value of persistent prayer. "Verily, verily" is used to underline how important and certain this instruction is. Jesus emphasizes how easy it is to fall prey to temptation and how easy it is to be misled if one is not alert and prayerful. In order to strengthen against the devil's cunning, the teaching emphasizes the necessity of constant communication with God and promotes a proactive and tenacious approach to spiritual warfare. Part Two Identify three flag phrases you that you highlighted and share why you thought they were important. This will determine if you understood how to use the "Flag Phrases" Skill. Reference to one of the verses where the identified flag phrase is found. SAMPLE flag phrase, with explanation as to why it seemed important. 3 Nephi 11:23 “Verily I say” I looked up ‘verily’ and it means ‘truly’ or ‘certainly’. Maybe this is a way that the Savior emphasises a spoken statement. Maybe it’s kind of like an exclamation point, but at the beginning of the sentence. Reference to one of the verses where the identified flag phrase is found. First flag phrase, with explanation as to why it seemed important. 3 Nephi 11: 3 Nevertheless He whispers that the spirit does not draw attention to itself by yelling at us or violently shaking us. Reference to one of the verses where the identified flag phrase is found. Second flag phrase, with explanation as to why it seemed important. 3 Nephi 11 Baptized In this chapter, the Lord mentioned baptism several times. The purpose of this repetition is to convey to us the significance of baptism and its influence on our lives. Reference to one of the verses where the identified flag phrase is found. Third flag phrase, with explanation as to why it seemed important.
3 Nephi 18: 8-11 Always We bear witness to the Father as we partake of the sacrament that we will never forget Jesus Christ and that we will obey all of God's commands. Part Three Practice the scripture study skill of visualization and pick one of the events described in the chapters you read and share WHY you particularly wish you could have attended and write a 200- word essay about what it would be and why. Share the reference to where you found the event you chose to write about, and why you chose it/what you learned as you visualized the event here. Witnessing the Savior's arrival in the Americas and His imparting of wisdom to the populace would be my preference. The event that took place when Jesus Christ descended among the Nephites and formed a close relationship with them is remarkable and holds great spiritual significance. Being there for this heavenly meeting would be incredibly life changing. It would be astounding to see the resurrected Christ in person, hear His words, and sense the real influence of His teachings on people's hearts. It would be evidence of the great influence of Christ's ministry to see the sick being healed, the blind being given sight, and the gathering being filled with the presence of divine love. These chapters contain the foundational teachings of love, compassion, and righteousness that Christ imparted during this visitation. My soul would be permanently altered by the chance to hear His words directly, to experience the weight of His teachings on repentance, faith, and discipleship, and to see the joy that results from accepting His gospel. Not only would attending this event provide you a unique historical perspective, but it would also give you a sacred and intimate relationship with the Savior. It would be a moment of unmatched spiritual illumination, strengthening my comprehension of Christ's mission and reaffirming the timeless values of charity, hope, and faith that He so eloquently demonstrated.
