Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 1 Biblical Worldview Paper Sasha Santos Liberty University
Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 2 Introduction As Christians, having a strong biblical worldview is understood as, putting God first. Putting full faith in the Lord and allowing him to guide our path in life. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths" (ESV, Proverbs 3:5-6). Having strong faith that God is in charge of all things, give God all your burdens, worries and fears, humble yourself and let him into your life. When God is with you, who can be against you? When we feel God is not listening, we are wrong. He knows what we are thinking and feeling before we do. We cannot hide from the Lord; Pray to him, stay faithful to him and he will deliver us the fruit of our desires. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear” (Matthew 6:25 NIV). In my church we are taught to “love God and love people”, I be- lieve this stands true with this assignment. God tells us that we must be fishers of man, every time someone turns to the lord in faith there’s a party in Heaven. Individuals whom are skepti- cal about the lord or whom are non-believers, Jesus teaches us that we are all Gods children. “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people” (Mark 1:17 NIV). Biblical worldview When Jesus was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights fasting, there was so much taunting by the devil to give up and disobey the Father; he did not. He kept faithful and true to his father. During Jesus journey on earth teaching the word of the lord to the people, he had many opportunities to think he could gain more power over the kingdom of God and rule as the kings did in those times instead, Jesus humbled himself and walked with all people; sinners,
Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 3 murderers, prostitutes, tax collectors, thieves and treated them all the same while knowing his Father is the One and only God and ruler. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Hebrews 8:12 NIV). The bible gives us a lot of examples to use to support every area of ones life, but one bible verse and story that has always stood stuck in my head, was when Jesus washes Peter’s feet and said to Peter “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13: 12-17, New International Version). Many people in high power jobs, positions, levels of wealth feel they are better than other’s whom are not on their level. Our lord bends and humbles himself and yet we think we are too much to do the same? As Christians we must humble ourselves and not let worldly desires and influences around us affect our actions. In todays society I feel there’s a battle going on against Good and Evil. The good will win, we must always be fishers of men; continue to spread the word of the lord among believers and non-believers. Jesus in his journey spoke to all people, so it doesn’t mean a Christian should only surround themselves with Christian’s. You can be around anyone, but never deny him around anyone. Never feel shameful to speak proud of the lord. We must be like Jesus and be a leader for God. “When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today. So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, He

Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 4 has gone to be the guest of a sinner” (Luke 19:5-7, New International Version). Our instincts as humans are to judge before we know and be cautious when we are not familiar with something or someone. I plug this verse in because Jesus continually throughout the bible expresses to us that we must be like Jesus and welcome all people no matter their religion, their sins, their sex- ual orientation or beliefs. The bible gives character attributes that we should all follow. There are many situations that we face in life that test our judgment, morals, faith and lead us to temptation. No matter the situation, the bible tells us “do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also” (Matthew 5:38, New International Version). That verse is a true test of a persons spiritual growth. Are they truly walking in the word of the lord or are they still being bonded to the worlds temptations? “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and ap- prove what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12 :2, New International Version). Christian Philosophy of education Christian philosophy of education explores how God created the world and all living things in it. Philosophy of education explores methodologies, beliefs and meanings surrounding education. Gutek describes it as “Can provide teachers with a sense of personal integration and professional coherence that places ongoing elements and episodes in teaching and learning in relation to and in perspective with each other” (Gutek, 2014, p. 3). We live in a world were peo- ple are always exploring new ideas and discovering new information. If we as christians, are not
Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 5 confident in what the word teaches us on creation, we could easily get sucked into societies nu- merous beliefs. In my research, I found an article that further strengthens my point, “Like the Bible, a Christian philosophy of education begins with our God. His character and plan, as re- vealed in the scriptures, become the foundation for everything else Christian educators seek to accomplish” (Forrey, 2000). As a Special education teacher the philosophies are simple. If I follow in the word of the lord, God will give me the strength and intellect to teach my students in a way that they will un- derstand and learn. “Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight” (Psalm 119:34-35, New International Version). As an educator we have many roles; but above all our duties, we must learn to understand what our students need and how they learn. Mastering that is learn- ing and growing to be an effective teacher. “A classroom that is a learning community works and prays together. When one member fails or suffers, all feel the pain. When one rejoices, all rejoice.” (Van Brummelen, H., 2009. p.179). An effective teacher is understanding, patient, car- ing, respectful and kind. Apostle Paul spoke the same tone, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily an- gered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:4–7, New International Version). Understanding these principles will help bring you peace within the classroom.
Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 6 Implications for Educational Practice In a Special education classroom, teachers handle many difficulties and challenges such as behavior changes, diet, differentiated 1-1 instruction, specific needs that need to be met fol- lowing their IEP goals and academic challenges. Teachers juggle all this, while trying to please parents and their schools administration. In todays classrooms, speaking openly about God could cost you your job, so how are we as christian educators supposed to be fishers of men if we cant openly voice the word of the lord? Districts and administrative staff ague that, speaking the word to your students may offend people who are of different religions, beliefs and those that are non believers. “Many employees with strong religious convictions find themselves liv- ing in two separate worlds: the sacred private world of family and church where they can ex- press their faith freely and the secular public world where religious expression is strongly dis- couraged” (Kim, Mccalman, & Fisher, 2011). In my personal worldview, There is no rule to say that teachers can’t discuss their love of God to their students as it is the teachers religious be- liefs as well that should be respected. Conclusion In today’s world were they are trying harder and harder each year to remove God from all public places including classrooms, it is our job as educators to stand firm in our beliefs. If we strongly believe God is in control of all things, then we too must believe God knows whats to come. The only way that christians will stay strong during these challenging times is if they are

Running head: BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW 7 immersed in the holy spirit. Continue to read the bible, go to church, worship him, and com- pletely stop hearing secular music on the radio. I find that when people get closer to God, the devil gets mad and your faith gets tested more and more, but we must stay strong and faithful. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25, New International Version). Understanding, nothing will ever give us more peace than when we have accepted Christ as our lord and savor; allowing him into our hearts and lives.
