The Ideal Community of Jesus Followers
Essential Features:
1)
A gathered Community:
The people gathered for the teaching of God's word. Prayer,
Fellowship, and the breaking of bread (Acts 2:42). Churches today still do these
things on the Lord's Day when gathering to worship God, setting aside the Sabbath
for worship and fellowship.
2)
Time and possession demands:
Every day they continued to meet together in the
temple courts. (Acts 2:46)" This relates to a gathered community. The people met
daily to hear these teachings, they ate together and served one another. They had their
own jobs and own families, but they had so much joy in their faith that they burrowed
themselves into a demanding community.
3)
No one left behind:
"There was no needy person among them" (Acts 4:34). Everyone
in the community shared everything. This led to a fair distribution of resources
needed and eliminated poverty.

The Ideal Community of Jesus Followers
Most present-day communities still gather to hear the word of God. However, we have
evolved our ways and places of prayer and fellowship. In today's world, people believe that as
long as you follow and practice God’s word, it does not matter where you do these things. You
can do them at church, at home, work, in the shower, wherever you are. God sees all, no matter
where you are.
Most communities today meet once a week, sometimes twice, to hear these teachings. As
far as I know, there are not any communities that meet daily to follow these demands. People
have learned to value their jobs and families just as much as they do the world, making time for
everything necessary.
The last essential feature of the community is one I do not see today. In today’s world, it
is everyone for themselves. People are left behind all the time. Communities do not share
everything to ensure one another is cared for. We are greedy and only worry about those
important to us. I hardly see random acts of kindness in community-shared resources. There is
much poverty in today’s world. There are rich, and there are poor. We are not living a fair
distribution life.
