OK that's interesting I thought about that before that brings me some new ideas of looking at that's the difference between the academic and the insider right so the insider wants to try to figure out what God wants and why does God want this that's what they're trying to do with their faith the academic there's only interested in what does the author of this text think God wants and what is the author of this text think he needs to tell and it's going to be the older business OK so there's a patriarchal element very strong in these texts men controlled attacks men control the information et cetera et cetera OK so that's what we're looking at we're trying to get to the text build a context around the text and make sense of it why would the author at this time in this place say these things about their God and they keep changing their mind in the Bible depending when they write this is the most fascinating thing this is what we love about studying the Bible alright so when we apply this sort of look we're doing an anthropological approach alright we're concerned with studying people and from as the Greek word for people cology is that Greek for students study of people that's what we're doing we're doing a study of the writers of these texts OK the insider is interested in and this is descriptive is of human action the insider is interested in feeling they perceive God exists they want to understand what does God want for me what does God want from my community that's a theological approach we studied the theology of the writers but we don't study theology itself OK and that is the idea of theology is that prescriptive part of the gods could you imagine the gods actually want and we get to use God's quarrel because one thing the Bible does not it is not entirely a presentation of monotheism this is going to be the most remarkable thing you're going to find out many times authors believe that God is the best of many God some writers and songs actually tell you about how God you know the dangerous throne had to kill other gods that's in the Bible but it's in the policy alright songs has all these wonderful stuff that everyone ignores because it's full so that's not like a reference to the fact that the Bible doesn't mention the Trinity that when we get to the New Testament and Christians have this idea on the Trinity that is a very very two centuries later concept the word never is used in the in the New Testament correct right and definitely don't turn it in the old test there's one God there's many gods handle theism is the credit term for the writing in the old test they say this God's best of all the gods and then later on some prophet came up with the idea you know maybe there were no other about monotheism was the way to go the problem with model there's only one God is when evil happens he did now you gotta go off at this good and I got that that's evil that's really bothers people so later on they moved into duels supreme evil the supreme good and they're at war with each other and monotheism becomes more dualistic at the time see because it's more attractive to people I'm going to give you perfect examples where a text is monophyletic and then it becomes dualistic and it's the same text rewritten and you can decide yourself there was a hand you found your book was there a handle over here that I missed something sorry OK alright so we'll we'll talk about that but this is different than the inside in the academic we are training you to be this person you can still be this person you gotta set your faith aside OK so so for your information lecture presentations as Tony talked about we cover the content we briefly cover the readings and we expect you to keep up with the readings all right uh the trial size in class tests will occur on the same day playing your time wisely take notes of the readings all this stuff we like to provide additional material because you know just like phones that repeating them material the text right so we will bring stuff that we think will make it more interesting and I post all my slides you post your slides I provide as anyone been on the website for today I provide you a very simple outline of this lecture on a Word document so you will least know the headings of the slides going in and then i'll help him for taking notes it's a word document so you can open it up you can have it the computer
your text by the way refers to three worlds of the Bible this is the Howard young this is how it chooses to explore the Bible one of these worlds that calls the literary world right this is the world within the text so the text mentions people it mentions places it gives all kinds of dates that creates a world that you can read about in the text friction does this all the time so probably not because you're told it was fiction and you but you enjoy it and you know what they actually provide a map of this fictitious world does that prove that it exists because they got back of it no it just helps you reading so when they talk about westeros and Easter us you know where they are you can see what's going on in this story it helps fuel your imagination makes a better experience for you alright so just imagine if we could do that today is that something we invented always been there this ability to write good stories we think story writing has been around for thousands of years people know how to write this story so what's the difference between good story and a religion you can't have religion without words the difference to conquest to the highest scoring i don't think there's.
