Leadership and Scripture Assessment: Vision/Mission Statement Assignment
Parkay (2014) says there are six areas any leader needs to consider when deciding to develop and communicate their vision. The six areas are to know your purpose, what you want to
accomplish, what your values are, how can you benefit others, how to accomplish goals, and whether you can delegate responsibility. Vision is a leader’s goal and the way they plan to accomplish them. A leader’s vision typically is a guide on how to help others obtain those goals. The first trait of knowing your purpose, we can look at Mark1:1-15 where we see John the Baptist and Jesus knowing their purposes. Jesus knew that his purpose was to follow John and state the good of God. John’s purpose was to go before Christ and make the way for GOD. The second trait is to know what you want to have accomplished. We see this trait when Christ’s life while going to Capenaum. During this journey, we see Jesus call on his disciples and
ask them to give up their jobs and learn to fish for people. (Mark 1:16-20). When Christ arrives in Capernaum, he goes to the synagogues and teaches others. Mark 1:22 says that Christ taught the people as having authority and not as scribes. Christ knew that his purpose was to teach others and he accomplished his purpose. The next trait is talking about knowing your values. We see this several times in the bible, where Christ can be seen discussing with others who might be seen as outcasts. Even though people criticized him for speaking to any outcast, he didn’t stop talking to them, because he had bigger ideas. Mark 2:17 says Christ had said to others who criticized him, it is not the healthy people who need a doctor. I have come to call the sinners. The fourth trait is how can you benefit others (Parkay , 2014). The Bible has many examples of Jesus’ actions shown to be beneficial to others. In Mark 3:1-6, Jesus heals on the

sabbath, this healing helped the man directly who was sick. This action also benefitted others by
being an opportunity of teaching. This opportunity had criticism from the Pharisees to this Jesus said to them the law on the sabbath is to do good or to do bad, save a life, or kill. They did not respond to Christ. The fifth trait is how to accomplish goals, We see this trait when Jesus feeds the four thousand only having seven loaves and a few small fish. Jesus knew what his goals were and what he intended to do even though the disciples questioned his doings. The sixth and final trait according to Parkay is to delegate responsibility. Passover came and we see Jesus delegate responsibility in completing preparations to his disciples. Delegating the responsibility allowed Jesus to attend to other responsibilities. In Mark 14:13 it says Christ sent two to the city to prepare for Passover. Leaders in Education who are transparent in their vision and mission of their schools show it when you first come in the door. Your Vision should be seen as part of your should be seen as part of your school in all aspects. Delegating can officially happen when leaders are open. The vision, mission, and commitment of my school is as follows: Vision: to place our students in the best possible position to succeed academically, emotionally, socially, and physically. Mission: to provide a safe learning environment and a positive school culture where in all
children and adults can learn and be successful. Commitment: we will conduct ourselves professionally with a strong commitment to the values of character and competence.
