Squares: 4 ideas that, in general, square (fit) with your thinking
“The main subject of the Bible is God’s plan to rescue, redeem, and restore his world” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.37).
There is only one word I with this quote. Instead of the word “world” I would say relationship.
God has been, is, and will always be his relationship with humanity. Adam was the only creation God the Father put himself into. Everything else God spoke into creation. Adam and Eve were not the only ones impacted by their decision to choose something over their relationship with God. God was hurt. Yet God pushed passed his personal pains and out of love provided a greater covering. The covering of Adam and Eve was a fore shadowing and the first act of his plan to rescue, redeem, and restore. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission for sin.
“The Bible was meant to be read and studied by all believers, not merely church leaders” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.55).
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that, whosoever
, believes on him will not perish but have ever lasting life. I will go further to say that anyone can read God’s words. However, the believer
receives the revelations of his words because of their relationship with the author. It is imperative that regardless of one’s level in this Christian journey that they read “The Will.” The believer receives what they can manage at their level while the leader receives what will propel them. This is why the leader is able to lead. Just as there are various grade levels in the journey of education. There are different levels of study, depending on the “grade” of the reader.
“Yes! Writing in your Bible and interacting with the text is a great way for God’s Word to leave an impression on you” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.64).
Study to show yourself approved a workman that needs not to be ashamed when rightly dividing the truths of God’s words. As a college student writing in my textbooks was the immediate way to show my understanding of what I was reading. Those writings would sometimes cause me to dig deeper into the text. Other than writing, there was tabbing with assorted color post-it notes. The ultimate way to interact with the text was when I broke out the highlighters. I cannot explain
why doing so makes the text more personal, but it does!
“Life events have a way of shaping and changing us. These events can be positive or negative” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.68).
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. As clay on the potter’s wheel so are the days of
our lives. God uses a myriad of ways to get us to the point/destination that brings us to him. Many roads lead to New York but there is only one place where the Statue of Liberty stands. From the womb to the tomb, we travel by faith through this thing called life. We, the believer, know that before we were formed in our mother’s womb our life was designed to be that which pleases God. Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old the training will not depart from them. The statue of our life was always there, it is the chipping away through positive and negative experiences that it is revealed.
Triangles: 3 angles you have never considered before
“There are four common pieces of baggage that every person brings to a study of the Scriptures” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.66).
“Another significant early translation is the Latin Vulgate. Vulgate comes from a Latin word that basically means “common.” The Latin Vulgate was produced near the end of the fourth century AD by Jerome, a Christian theologian and historian” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.55).
“A Bible translation philosophy used by the committee of the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) seeks to chart a middle path between the above philosophies. Called optimal equivalence, the goal of this translation strategy is to balance both the structure and language of the original text with a readability that enables the modern reader to understand the passage easily in the English language” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.62).
Circles: 2 questions that are circling in your mind
Why do we have so many translations of the Bible? When the bible was translated into different versions; did it lose any meaning?
Hearts: 1 idea that you loved.
“The Bible itself is one big story that God is telling. It is a story that begins in Genesis 1 and ends in Revelation 21. It is God’s story. He is the main character, the main actor” (Cartwright et al., 2019, p.35).
