Topic 5 Whole school behaviour programs Complete the following table below, including: Identify two whole-school approaches (groups of children) or programs used in Australian State and Territory Departments of Education to support the behaviour or self-management of students. Identify one goal of each program that supports behaviour or self-management. Provide one way that a Student Learning Support Officer could support the teacher or presenter of the program during a lesson/activity. An example has been provided. Table 1 Whole-school behaviour program and strategies Name of whole- school behaviour program Goal of the program One strategy to support the lesson/activity Positive Behaviour for Learning To contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive, safe and supportive learning environment. I can contribute to the PBL lesson by participating in the lesson planned by the teacher. I can use the language and reward system of the program to maintain consistency across the school. School-wide positive behaviour support framework. School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures. SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural, and academic outcomes for children and young people. I can participate in the activities related to the program. Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs) This plan helps any child having difficulty with behaviour. They are intended to support children who have behaviours interfering with learning at school. A BIP focuses on teaching alternate behaviours that meet the child’s needs and serves the same function as the behaviour of concern. I can contribute to this plan by participating in the program and encouraging the students to join. I can learn the strategies used to support children with learning at school and implement them. Topic 6 Targeted program/approach
Complete the following table below, including: Identify two targeted approaches (individual children) or programs used in Australian State and Territory Departments of Education to support the behaviour or self-management of students. Identify two ways that a Student Learning Support Officer could support the teacher or presenter of the program during a lesson/activity. Table 2 Targeted program and strategy to support Name of targeted program/approach Goal of the program One strategy to support the lesson/activity Quicksmart Numeracy Program To build capacity in numeracy skills to address inequity. I can check the students going to Quicksmart and support them to be organized and ready to go at the allocated time. I can collect any notes and information for the students while they are at Quicksmart and then support them to re-engage with class activities when they return. Catch Up Numeracy program Catch Up® Numeracy is a structured one-to-one intervention for learners who find numeracy difficult. It enables learners who struggle with numeracy to achieve more than double the progress of typically developing learners. I will encourage the students to take part in the program and support them while doing the activities NAPLAN -The National assessment program - literacy and numeracy NAPLAN results allow parents/carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards. The results can assist teachers by providing additional information to support their professional judgement about students’ levels of literacy and numeracy attainment and progress. I will help the students to do preparation for the test. I will encourage the students to take part in the assessment by making aware of how it can be beneficial for them in future.
