How would you select subjects for your study? Since depression is something that all kinds of people are susceptible to you would want to select participants from a wide range of demographics but you would want to make sure you discern the males and females. How would you determine which subjects received a given treatment?
Once again, the subjects should be chosen randomly and the groups should each treatment should be mixed demographically and remain fairly consistent with each other possibly further splitting all groups by males and females. What is the independent variable (IV) in this experiment? The independent variable is the treatment model. How many levels or conditions will there be? There will be 4 conditions. List the different conditions. 1. Drug therapy 2. Cognitive-behavioral therapy 3. Interpersonal psychotherapy 4. No therapy (control) How will you measure (operationally define) the dependent variable (DV)? By how the participants describe their emotional state before and after the treatment. What other factors or variables will you need to control? Other drugs and anything that impacts a person's mood. How long will the study need to continue for? Several weeks to a month or two If you actually completed this study, what do you think you would find as a result? I think interpersonal psychotherapy would be the most effective.
