Journal 6-2: Personality Tests PSY 550 Southern New Hampshire University Adria Kalla Dr. Regina Alston
Personality Tests I always find personality tests enlightening but then I also tend to wonder if results can change depending on how a person is feeling when they take them. For example, would results differ if someone were having a bad day versus a good day? I have taken the Myers-Briggs personality test a few times and the results stayed relatively the same. Now taking this IPIP-NEO test I found it pretty accurate and seemed to be more in-depth in details. This can be a useful tool in many ways such as it can be helpful in self-growth, therapeutical assessment, and a useful tool for employers to find a candidate that would fit for a position. This can look further into an individual’s strengths and weaknesses and can help to explain the how is and why is they feel, think, and do certain things. I agree with most of the results especially with the extraversion “Your score on Extraversion is average, indicating you are neither a subdued loner nor a jovial chatterbox. You enjoy time with others but also time alone.” It is as I have always said I am introvert but can be an extrovert when needed. If I received the feedback that was given in the Sample Personality Results Report I would feel relieved and defeated combined. Many of the results felt more negative with little positive aspects to outweigh. At the same point I would feel a sense of relief too as I would feel as though someone took my thoughts and feelings seriously and understood the need to get help. Although negative, it can show what treatment can be beneficial to help especially with the depression aspect which could amplify much of the negative results such as low confidence and negative outlook on life. When analyzing the IPIP-NEO, MMPI-2, and the MCM-III each are useful dependent on the purpose of the test. The MMP-2 and MCM-III are more specified for indicating any pathological or personality disorder indicators with the intent of a diagnosis. The IPIP-NEO is
used for the understanding of neutral personality traits based on the Big Five model. Results from the IPIP-NEO can be helpful as it can inform a more in depth look into an individual’s personality and see what aspects could be lacking. This could be beneficial when figuring out types of treatment needed based on the results. It can show what areas need help such as low self-esteem which can indicate depression or their levels of neuroticism if high can indicate mood disorders. In the case from the sample report the MCM-III and MMP-2 helped to see her level of depression and lack of self-esteem which led to her negative outlook on life and isolation from others. Combined this gave a non-biased look into her personality and can be helpful in determining the best course of treatment.
