CJ 140 Module Two Assignment Template To complete this template, replace the bracketed text with the relevant information. Identification Identify three or more nonverbal communication cues. Message Given the situation, identify the message you think is being conveyed. Interpretation Explain why you think this is the message being communicated from the nonverbal communication cues you identified. What other factors in the situation lead you to believe that this is the message being communicated? Could the nonverbal communication mean something else? Why or why not? Visitor (wife) bouncing her leg. Urgency. I think this message is being communicated from the nonverbal cue unintentionally. I think she doesn’t realize that she’s bouncing her leg which could mean she’s nervous in case she gets caught or she did it intentionally to communicate urgency to her husband in this instance. Tapping the plexiglass in a pattern. They’re communicating about the contraband. I think this is the message they’re communicating so that they won’t catch them saying the words. Sometimes, in other languages, the English word can sound the same, so they didn’t want the officers listening to catch on. For instance, in my language, the word coffee is called ‘kofe’ and pronounced ‘Coh-feh’. Inmate nodding his head. Understanding. I think this is the message they’re communicating because after she tapped the same pattern, he nodded, which means he understood. But it could also mean approval or encouragement because she may have asked him if he wanted some or if he thought they could get away with it and he nodded to approve or encourage her to do so.
