Video 1: Write the Name of the Video – Babies and toddlers: Amazing learners - Video 1 a. Main Point and why it is an important topic. The main point of the video is to show how children develop and learn over the years, right from birth. It shows the milestones that children achieve at every point in life and what they are able to learn at the same time as well. It shows the differences in learning and behavior among children of different ages b. How has the content of this video changed, confirmed, or inspired your thoughts? I have been able to learn about what children learn at different stages in their lives. I have actually never thought that the first three years of life are very important to a child. This video has enlightened me in that area as I now know what to focus on, on the first three years of life. c. Explain why you agree/disagree with a statement made in the video. Include the quote and the role of the quoted person (teacher, parent, director, etc.). I agree with the statement made at minute 1:27 by Anne Stonehouse, that, children learn largely through their relations and interactions with people. This is very true. I know how much relationships mean to children. They value how they are taken care of, how one responds to their emotions and needs, among other. Video 2: Write the Name of the Video – Creating a Positive Learning Environment a. Main Point and why it is an important topic. The purpose of the video is to explain the importance of environment to children. This is the environment in which they grow and interact it. It shows how much of an impact the environment has on children, especially for learning. This is important as it would help teachers to know how to best create a good environment that would foster positive learning in children. b. Describe a classroom activity that you would plan to implement in your classroom that demonstrates the main concept discussed in this video. Would you use technology, a story, a book, a song or poem, a game, or an experiment? Would it take place indoors or out? Be specific with titles and/ or materials. A classroom activity that I would wish to implement in the classroom is a chart where the students can write down their feelings every morning when they come in. This will be a digital chart as it will help keep tabs of each student over a longer period of time. Therefore, technology will be used in this case. encourage them to even do better, especially when they show positivity. This way, the students will feel cared for and that there is someone who is always there to oversee them. This way, a positive classroom environment is created. c. Provide a specific classroom application of new knowledge gained from the video. A new classroom application that I have learnt from the video is the practice of mindfulness. We have never practiced such in our school, let alone our class. This is not only helpful to them but also helps the students be keen on other people’s emotions and well-being. This way, they can live in peace with themselves and their surroundings as they will be less likely to cross people’s paths. Video 3: Write the Name of the Video –Scaffolding Academics with Social and Emotional Skills in the Afterschool Space a. Main Point and why it is an important topic. The main point of the video is to assess how students can take part in after school programs to build their social emotional skills. With self-regulation skills, children are able to learn a lot better. The video shows how teachers can relate with the students better to make the lessons more fun so that the students can always look forward to them. b. Describe something that inspired you or caused you to want to learn more. One thing I have learnt from the video, which I really liked was the play whereby the teachers showed the students how it is to feel several emotions at once and how they can handle this. This helped the students to understand that whatever they might go through is a normal occurrence and that they just need to find ways of navigating their emotions to avoid anxiety. c. Connect something from the video to your experience or prior knowledge. I relate to the occurrences in the video. This is because, at one point, I totally forgot to do my homework and did not even carry the book to school. At the same time, I realized that I had forgotten by lunchbox on the kitchen counter back at home. These two occurrences brought me a lot of anxiety. However, I managed to talk to the teacher who gave me more time to do the homework, and a friend of mine shared his lunch with me. This way, I learnt that sometimes things take their own course.
