Policy proposal: Medicare is available for all international students until completing their studies. Why is it necessary and how will it benefit? So international students can access the required medication, and have the necessary health benefits. Take financial stress off students. Key stakeholders The Whitlam government. The Commonwealth Government is mostly responsible for the funding of health services and the writing of policies for health. They fund primary health care through Medicare and also fund the PBS making health products and services more affordable. Likely to support the policy and be opposed to it: Uni students will be more likely to support as they’re more inclined to need/access the services and may know friends who need that specific support. And older people are more opposed to the policy, and they gain any benefit from it. How will it be funded? Through taxes and government. What time will be the time period for its implementation: 1 to 2 years. The application process might take a while due to international students not having all the right or necessary documents needed. How will success be measured?
