Constitution Please define constitution. What are the four key purposes of all constitutions? Please define separation of powers. Please define checks and balances. Should the Texas Constitution of 1876 be amended to increase the length of the regular sessions of the Texas Legislature? Why or why not? 1. onstitution is the basic law of a state or nation. 2. The four key purposes of the constitution are legitimacy, organizing government, providing power, and limiting governmental power. 3. The separation of powers is an act of vesting the legislative, executive, and judicial powers of government in separate bodies to ensure the government isn’t abusing their power. 4. Checks and balances is a system created to allow each branch to respond to the actions of other branches whether that’d be to amend, override, or veto; the purpose is to prevent one branch from becoming too powerful and limits their actions. 5. Yes, the Texas Constitution of 1876 should be amended to increase the length of the regular sessions because developing long-range public policy is problematic with complex state politics and finance, so the annual legislature session is needed.
