1 Deliverable 4 – Einstein’s Physics Compare/Contrast Paper Ashley Fletcher Rasmussen College COURSE#: PHY4060CBE Vincent Rossi December 1, 2023
2 Intro This week’s assignment required me to identify the physics principles contained within the scenario. I will point out how Einstein’s special and general relativity theories impact modern technology. I will explain how these principles relate to Einstein’s theory of relativity or in modern applications in physics. I will then compare and contrast from my own experience how I use Einstein’s theory of relativity. Mandy’s Trip Mandy took a trip to Rome, Italy. She gazed out over the open ocean 20,000 feet below as her airplane began its descent to her final destination of Rome. It has been a long flight from New York to Rome, but as she stretched, and her bones creaked as though she was old, she knew in fact, she was a tiny bit younger than her compatriots back home, thanks to traveling at hundreds of miles per hour. In fact, time for her was running slowly compared to her friends in New York for two reasons: the speed at which she had traveled and the height of the airplane above the Earth. Neither, though, were noticeable. There are several principles within this scenario. First is that the plane is flying with the help of a resistor that activates the GPS and flight controls allowing the plane to know where it is going. Secondly, Einstein’s special relativity states that time does not pass at the same rate for everyone. Dilation is when a person moving fast measures time passing more slowly than a stationary observer would. In this scenario Mandy is traveling much faster than her friends on the
3 ground. This creates an event where Mandy begins to age slower than her friends would back home. My Life My life is running by electronics which all have something to do with Einstein and other physicists. Transistors allow my coffer maker, cell phone and computers to work. The GPS I use to get me to work in the fastest amount of time is all in part to Einstein’s theory of relativity. From communication and transport to healthcare and connectivity, technology has enhanced our lives for the better. The best part is that it is ever evolving by facilitating more advanced features. For instance, we have come far from traditional audio calls to instant messaging and facetime. Without Einstein’s theory of relativity explains how gravity keeps me on the Earth. The Theory of special relativity explains that time for me is not the same as the people flying on a plane above me. Time is moving faster for me than them. Conclusion In this assignment I listed the physics principles including identification that identify Mandy’s trip to Rome, Italy. By using Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and Special Theory of Relativity I was able to point out its involvement with Mandy’s trip as well as things in my own life that are possible due to Albert Einstein.
