Running head: PBS TECHNOLOGY ASSIGNMENT 1 PBS Technology Assignment Brittney Twigg Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana
Running head: PBS TECHNOLOGY ASSIGNMENT 2 For my assignment, I chose to use child B.C. age 4 years 6 months. She is a female student with no prior preschool experience. The mother had mentioned beforehand that B.C. does not have frequent access to computers or cellphones. B.C. knows of some television and movie characters but not many. I placed B.C. in our meeting rug area during free-play, so that she feels most comfortable. I used my personal tablet to allow the child to seat themselves however they pleased. B.C. choose to lie down on her stomach during this activity. Activity #1: Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Spin & Sing ( https://pbskids.org/daniel/games/spin-and-sing ) Upon starting this assignment, B.C. was drawn towards this character. She seemed very interested in this particular game. It is a digital version of the traditional spin toy. This game promotes both social skills but also allows the child to discover subjects like healthy snacking, weather, and safety. This game was very easy to guide through for B.C. She seemed to follow the different directions given. The interface was simple and didn’t contain too many demands. This game only lasted roughly five to seven minutes and would probably entertain a child once before it is mastered. Activity #2: Pinkalicious & Peteriffic Pinkamagine Fashion ( https://pbskids.org/pinkalicious/games/pinkamagine-fashion ) This game was very eye-catching to B.C. She automatically knew who the characters were. The game featured very beautiful graphics. Although there are male characters in the game, I feel this was geared towards a female audience. I would classify this game in the art section. It allows children to construct different clothing for the characters they can pick from. One downside is there seems to be far too many options for a child to customize and B.C began to become very overwhelmed with the activity. She did require some direction from me as to what button to press next but overall, she seemed to enjoy if very well. I could see a child spending quite a bit of time on this game, designing different clothing items for their character. Activity #3: Let’s Go Luna’s Seek & Find ( https://pbskids.org/luna/games/lunas-seek-and-find ) This game struck me firsthand as one for a more mature audience. The game reminiscent of a hidden object game I played as a child. At the beginning it shows the child a world map with the choices to travel to Juneau in Alaska, New Orleans in Louisiana, London in the United Kingdom, Paris in France, and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It gives the child each time they pick a city to find four objects. B.C. excelled during this activity and became proud of her accomplishments as she went on to each level. This is a great problem-solving and concentration game for a child of her age. This could have potential if the levels became increasingly more difficult, to challenge the child as they reach a higher level. B.C. played this particular game the longest of the three, which was around fifteen to twenty minutes.
