Addie Clements ESPY 341 12/11/2023 Personal Philosophy and Action Plan A.) Personal Philosophy Reflection A welcoming lecture hall and teaching environment are essential to the culturally responsive approach. My dream job would be to teach using inclusive materials. I would implement the six culturally responsive teaching strategies that we have discussed this semester in my classroom. To "overcome things such as racism, classism, and other forms of bias" is one of the main goals of teachers and students working together. It is crucial that the teacher involve every student and demand equal participation from them in the classroom. Furthermore, I think a class should have a variety of intelligence levels. The teacher would also benefit from this in addition to the student. Teachers can identify the learning styles of their students based on their many intelligences. Teachers are then able to organize their lessons appropriately. Students would benefit from a wide variety of learning styles that they would encounter on a daily basis. I learn best through hands-on experience. I learn best when I am demonstrated how to do something, then I do it on my own several times. While assessments can be stressful for both students and teachers, they also give teachers guidance on how to proceed. In this course, a variety of assessment formats were covered, such as normative referenced testing and criteria referenced testing Even if I would rather avoid tests, they do reveal how well pupils understand the material being covered in class. Students benefit from testing. It is more significant how well the pupils comprehend the material than how well they score. There have been many distinct kinds of families and components included in this course. Therefore, I think it's critical to
comprehend the backgrounds of the students. It makes it possible for the teacher and the student to communicate more effectively. Some kids are looked after by guardians rather than their parents. In any case, educators need to understand how important a family's influence is to a child. Incorporating a family into the classroom facilitates the learning of the topic in their home. I discovered in this class that people's perspectives on life and the external factors influencing their decisions are primarily shaped by their culture. By incorporating diverse cultures into the classroom, educators and learners can gain a deeper understanding of one another and the global community. In the classroom, I would like to have my students communicating about their cultures and impart knowledge to both their peers and me as their teacher. This would help their peers get to know one another better as well as help me learn more about the pupils. Collaboration in the classroom opens up new possibilities, perspectives, and experiences. B.) Action Plan While in this course, I learned about myself and ways to teach well. Before taking this course, I really did not know a lot about multicultural education. I had honestly not really heard about it at all. Now that I have taken this course, I have an understanding about what multicultural education is. Before this course I had only really learned about what diversity is. After taking this course I have learned about other cultures and backgrounds. I can now connect with others that are from different backgrounds. I may not be able to connect with them on a personal level, but, I know where they came from and their background. For me, understanding culture has never been easy. This is among the reasons I believed that enrolling in this course would be a wonderful summertime idea. My personal objectives are to study overseas and minor in Spanish. These objectives will support my development as an inclusive person and enable me to keep learning about people from other origins and cultures. These two objectives, in my
opinion, will greatly contribute to my professional development both now and in the future. I am appreciative of Indiana State's opportunity to introduce me to diversity and teach me more about people from different backgrounds and cultures. C.) References Voltz, Deborah (2010).
