Week 6 Scenario and Reflection Essay
This week’s scenario is about transplant tourism, internationally. What is discussed are those who are in different ethical countries, as mentioned, may not share certain or specific cultural believes as many of us in more developed countries do. For many of these people in need of organs, they will do what it takes to make ends meet and often times they are not suitable
to be an organ recipient, there are also long dreading wait lists for organs as well. I chose option B out of all 4 given options to choose which would be ethically correct. I agree with this statement, because as with anything in life, we must always proceed with caution.
When it comes to anything that is handled internationally, it comes with different regulations which we are used to. In certain developing and less advanced countries we run the risk of problems. I don’t think that transplant tourism is necessarily a problem, but there can always be ways and room to make the quality better. Prior to watching the scenarios, I was very hesitant to believe that organ tourism could exist, it sounded like a black market for organs. The more I listened and followed through with the scenarios and overviews of the speakers, I was more at ease with my decision upon this. I also like this option because they mentioned that there “ can always be room for improvement”. This can only be a problem if the organs were not coming from reputable and ethical sources, and in that case, this wouldn’t be justifiable for people. We need to ensure that correct doners as well as recipients have a complete understanding of risks, as
well as long implications that come with it. I believe this relates to utilitarianism, and this is because this is justifying the well being of the specific action, which is organ transplant. Overall happiness is obviously the main concern
when it comes to this ethical theory. As mentioned above, minimizing any harm will not only prevent mishaps with transplants, but will encourage access to the organ transplant offering
3
services. Overall, this will save a person’s life, and add positivity to the person’s life once organ transplant has been sustained.

I have provided the proper formatting for the textbook and the scenario video. The correct citations for the resources I have provided below are: (Pence, 2021) or (Pence, 2021, p. #)
if you are quoting for the textbook. For the presentation, the correct citations are: (Tosh, n.d.) if you are not quoting. You must include a timestamp in the citation when quoting the video (Tosh,
n.d., 1:21) if the quote starts one minute and 21 seconds into the video. The video doesn’t provide a timeline, so you must time it yourself. I suggest always paraphrasing rather than quoting.
If you use more than one video from the class, then you must distinguish between in your
paper. Put the sources in alphabetical order (as I have here) and use n.d.-a, n.d.-b, etc. in citations. If you only use one video, only use n.d. (not n.d.-a, n.d.-b, etc.). If Dr. Tosh is not teaching your class, the citations and references for the videos would use your instructor’s name and not Dr. Tosh’s name.
APA 7 is different from APA 6. Here is a website covering some key differences: https://www.scribbr.com/apa-style/apa-seventh-edition-changes/
. Regarding references, these are
the most common mistakes I see:
6
-
You made errors in capitalization of titles in your references. In APA, standard capitalization rules are followed everywhere but in titles of articles in references. In those, only capitalize the first word of the title, the first word after a colon in the title, and
proper nouns. You also made errors in italicization. Italicize the title of the article (unless it is followed by journal information -- then italicize journal title and volume). -
City/state of publisher not listed in references in APA 7.
-
Replace "Retrieved...from" with website title in APA 7. Website title follows article title. Do not have both website title and "Retrieved...from." -
When you reference an article from a website and have no author, the reference follows this order: Article title in italics. (date). Website Title. Website URL. Use the article title (not the website title) in your citations.
