Compare the spiritual and ethical message/teachings found within the Aboriginal prayer and the pastoral letter on how we are to care for the earth. How are they similar? How are they different?
Both prayers are similar because they both talk about caring for the Earth. They are discussing giving back to our planet since it is essential to our survival. They discuss expressing gratitude to mother earth for providing us with life. The difference they have is that the aboriginal prayer talks about what we should do as humans such as giving thanks to mother nature and just doing better in general. The Pastor letter talks about combating issues that Earth has and cherishing the resources that earth has, making it a bit more formal. Compare the Catholic understanding of the Holy Spirit with the Indigenous understanding of the Creator. First, explain the Catholic understanding of the Holy Spirit and the Indigenous understanding of the Great Spirit. Second, note the similarities and differences between Catholic and Indigenous beliefs about the nature of God the Holy Spirit/Creator, the Great Spirit.
The holy spirit is something that every believer has. When someone receives Christ, it basically means that they received the holy spirit. If someone has the holy spirit, it can help them grow closer to God. If you don’t have the holy spirit, then you do not belong to Christ. All
in all, the holy spirit is given to the true believer of Christ, and it is meant to help you have a better relationship with God. The indigenous hold the idea that there is a Great Spirit that resides in everything, such as humans or land. This Great Spirit is referred to as the Creator by them. The Creator is regarded as the supreme deity and can manifest itself in nature in a variety of ways. The difference between the two is that the holy spirit manifests itself into humans to create a divine relationship towards God while the Creator inhibits itself onto wildlife and landscapes. The similarity is that they both are regarded as the highest being. Do you think that it’s possible for Indigenous Catholics to honour the
old ways of their ancestors and still be true to the Catholic faith?
It is possible to be true to both religions in my opinion if you have good morals. Both religions have similar teachings, making it possible to adhere to both religions’ teachings. Moreover, to gain the holy spirit, you need to be a believer, or you can be saved and still be a believer, who I feel like Indigenous Catholics can do since as long as you believe the main points in Christianity, then you are considered a believer. After reviewing the Seven Grandfather Teachings and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us by Jesus what commonalities and differences do you see in them. Create a chart like the one here and make a judgment on which Gift of the Holy Spirit best matches the grandfather teachings listed and making the comparison.
Grandfather Teaching
Gift of the Holy Spirit
Critical Thinking Comparison
Wisdom
Wisdom
The Holy Spirit's first gift is wisdom, which gives us the ability to accurately evaluate the things in which we have faith. The grandfather's teachings state that to educate your people, you must cherish learning and never stop learning.
Love
Understanding We can comprehend the core of the Catholic religion through gaining insight. According to the grandfather's philosophy, tranquilly comes when you understand love. Through considering both parties' points of view, you may maintain that peace by understanding one another.
Respect
Fear of the lord
Fear of the lord is the same as respect because you fearing God shows them how high they are depicted. The holy spirit helps us in not offending God, and that god
will give us grace. We are instructed to respect the earth and the higher beings above, such as God, in the grandfather teachings. We can appreciate him more because we are terrified of him.
Bravery
Fortitude
Our fortitude provides us the stamina to carry out the recommendations made by the gift of counsel. In the grandfather's teachings, it might also indicate having the courage to always act morally.
Honesty
Council
Christians who have the gift of counsel may speak out for their views without being afraid. Because the holy spirit will lead them, it can aid in assisting with making the right decisions. The
grandfather teachings say that being truthful means never fabricating information or circulating rumours about others. With a counsellor, you may be completely open while still receiving life guidance.
Humility
Piety
Piety is the meaning of elevating our desire
to worship God and serve God out of love, going beyond a sense of obligation while in the grandfather teachings, humility is the
act of taking it upon oneself to care for others rather then getting cared for. Truth
Knowledge
Knowledge is the product of religion, but knowledge is the ability to judge everything considering the principles of Catholicism. According to the grandfather's teachings, seeking knowledge
may make a person stronger and healthier.
