When teachers encounter parents or caregivers who display a sense of entitlement (perhaps on behalf of their students), how should teachers react? Be specific in your plan and remember to integrate your Christian worldview.
As teachers, we will most definitely encounter parents or caregivers who think their child should be treated differently, or even given preferential treatment. As humans and Christians, we know we should treat everyone we encounter with respect and fairness. In our classrooms, we will have a variety of students from different backgrounds, socio-economic status, races, religions, and standards. When we encounter parents and caregivers who demand their child be treated differently from other students in the classroom, we must remain professional and inform them their child is important to you, and you want the best for them, but all other students are just as important too. Teachers should not only let parents know how important their children are to them, and how much you care for them on a regular basis. Teachers should not only tell parents and students how they would be treated respectfully and with fairness, but it should be evident
through the actions of teachers daily. As a teacher, you will deal and resolve certain situations differently, but in the end, you must resolve issues in a manner that is fair, equitable, and professionally at all times. We should treat others like we would want to be treated if we were in their shoes. In conclusion, remember to treat all students, parents, and anyone you may encounter with the love and respect that God have for us as Christians. If you apply this to every situation you encounter, you will know in your heart, you have done what you should have done in dealing with the situation as a professional and a Christian.
